The products advanced file management was designed with
business users in mind, and it encompasses a wide range
of powerful features to help Internet-enable enterprises
and small to medium-size businesses.
Our advanced file management functionality includes the
following:
|
|
Recent Activity
Recent account activity functionality allows
each account owner to get a quick snapshot of the most
recent account activity. This allows users to track
access to shared directories, see the most recent
changes to shared directories and to have an overview of
recent file uploads and downloads. The recent activity
page is divided into four sections:
New Items from Others. This section includes
files uploaded by others to a shared directory created
by the account owner.
Shared Folders. This area highlights directories
shared with the account owner by others.
File Activity. This tracks file uploads and
downloads performed by the account owner.
Sharing Activity. This section details when
recipients of a shared directory have accessed that
directory.

Advanced Directory Sharing
Advanced functionality has more
powerful options when sharing a directory with others.
Advanced directory sharing includes all of the options
of basic sharing plus much more functionality. Users can
choose to share a directory with an employee on the
corporate network simply by selecting that person's user
name. This software supports integration with LDAP and other
directory systems, so end-users can simply search the
LDAP system and choose the recipients of a shared
directory in a seamless fashion. A link to the chosen
directory is automatically placed in a specified area of
the recipient's IDS account. Users can also choose
to share files with others using a valid email address
or by choosing people or groups from their personal
address book.
Users may also create a subject for their shared
directory and include a message for those guests who are
receiving notification of the shared directory via
email. Advanced directory sharing also supports the
granting of read-only or read-write access on an
individual guest basis, and creators of a shared
directory may assign a password to the directory for
extra security.
It also offers the option of allowing users to
be notified immediately via instant messenger when
others access their shared directories. More information
about the instant messenger notification functionality
is available in the User
Notification section.

Image Thumbnail View
Support for thumbnail viewing, which
gives users the option to view small thumbnail images of
files stored in their DSP accounts. Thumbnailing is
particularly well suited to images and graphics because
users can visually scan an account or a folder for a
particular image without going to the trouble of
downloading each image in its entirety to view it.
Thumbnailing is also extremely efficient. The
software generates actual rendered thumbnails
and then displays these software-rendered thumbnails in
the browser. This method ensures that only the small,
rendered thumbnails are downloaded to the
user's browser, resulting in a very small, fast
download. Other methods rely on the browser to perform
the thumbnail generation, resulting in the need to
download the full-size image to the browser and then
have the browser itself generate a thumbnail. DSP
thumbnailing is not only convenient but also as fast and
efficient as possible.

Address Book
Personal address book,
which allows account owners to add personal information
about individuals to a specific address book.
Users can add an individual's first name, last name and
email address to the address book, and the address book
can be searched to find entries quickly. When
configuring a shared directory, account owners can add
individuals from the address book to the list of those
with access permissions to the shared directory.
The address book also supports the notion of personal
groups so that users can create groups from two or more
of the individuals in their address book.

User Notification
This application allows account owners to opt to
receive immediate notification of certain events that
take place within their accounts. Users can be notified
via email in some instances or they can choose to be
notified via instant messenger. Supports for
three primary open instant messenger clients, MSN
(Microsoft), ICQ (AOL) and Yahoo.
Users can choose to be notified via instant messenger
when the following activities take place:
- A guest accesses a shared directory
- A guest uploads a file to a shared directory
- The account owner uploads a file in which a virus
has been detected
- A guest uploads, to a shared directory, a file in
which a virus has been detected

Desktop Access
Desktop account access merges the user's local
computing environment with his or her online account.
The software uses Microsoft Web Folders (or My Network
Places) technology to enable desktop access.
Users can take advantage of desktop access in two
ways. Firstly, users can drag and drop files and folders
between their local desktop and the desktop
folder, just as if a user were using the Windows
Explorer functionality on a local PC. This functionality
allows a user to upload and download entire folders at
once.
Secondly, users can take advantage of the integration
between Web Folders and Microsoft Office 2000 products.
Office 2000 allows users to save files to and open files
from any Web Folder, in this case an IDS account.
Users can open any Office file from their IDS
account, make changes and save those changes directly
back into their IDS account - no more downloading a
file, making changes and then uploading that file back
into an online account.

Web Publishing
This application offers an easy-to-use
alternative for hosting personal web sites, allowing
users to upload files directly into an Internet
directory that is automatically configured for web
publishing. Offering a more user-friendly option
than FTP and is suitable for enabling non-technical
users to establish a personal web site quickly and
easily.
The application automatically creates a
designated folder for web publishing; uploading an
"index.html" file to that folder activates the
web publishing folder. The system automatically displays
a public URL that the account owner can distribute.
